Welcome to Bio-Fuels in New Hampshire

This web site explores alternative, sustainable fuels for New Hampshire. Please feel free to contribute content by clicking on "Submit News".

Oyster River Biofuel Initiative is a NH organization of biofuel users, enthusiasts, researchers, and business people whose goal is to promote clean, sustainable, and economical energy choices for New England through cooperative development, production and use of biofuels, and through research and education about biofuels.

Walpole, NH Energy Fair May 3 2008
Announcements TriVillage Energy, the town energy committee for Walpole, NH, is organizing a rather ambitious Energy Fair on Saturday, May 3. We are hoping to educate our community by providing lots of activities, including a greenish transportation parade, greenish home and homestead tour, local farmers market, demonstrations, and exhibitors and vendors with information on better energy practices.

We would love to find cars running on BioFuel to participate in the parade.

Also tables in the vendor/exhibit area are still available if anyone would like to spread the word about BioFuel? (There's a $20 fee for that, but it can be waived on request if necessary.)

Everyone who may be interested is encouraged to reply directly to info[put the 'at' symbol here]trivillageenergy.org.

Thanks!
Jill Robinson

15 Nov 2007 Meeting...
Announcements The ORBI group is meeting tomorrow morning at Young's Restaurant for its bi-weekly meeting. We will be reviewing and discussing the report just issued by the legislative commission on biodiesel production in New Hampshire. Representative David Borden chaired the commission. I'm hoping David Borden can attend the ORBI meeting but Mark Coulson and I participated in
the commission's work.

High school Biodiesel study
Questions of interest to the BiofuelNH Hey all,
I am a student at the White Mountain School in Bethlehem, NH and i am
planning on doing an independent study on biodiesel this coming fall.
However for this to happen i need some sort of grant or funding to get
the project rolling, because unfortunately the school does not have
the funds for such a project at this time. Just wondering if anyone
out there in the community knows of a company or individual i could
contact who may be interested in funding or partially funding this
project. I am also looking for anyone in the greater Bethlehem area
who may be a good contact and or supplier of the supplies needed to
make biodiesel and someone who could be helpful to me if any questions
arise.

Thanks!

VW 2001 Jetta "Grease Car" for sale
Engine Retrofits A few months ago I discovered a 2001 Jetta VW for sale that had the "Grease car" conversion. This will run on Petroleum Diesel, BioDiesel, or appropriately filtered Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO).

Unfortunately, I can't convince my partner this would be a good car to buy, so in the interest of marital harmony, I didn't buy it. However, I decided to let others know about it.

Note: If you don't want to run it on WVO, just disconnect the heater on the spare tank, and you'll double your driving range!

The car is in the New Boston area of NH.

Joe hits the UNH front page
In The Press Our very own Joe Pearson is featured in this UNH article on biodiesel.

It also mentions Jim Proulx's new initiative (MBP, Bioenergy, LLC) to produce an economical "micro biodiesel processor".

Newmarket Getty Will Have B-20
Commercial and Retail Availability We have an email message indicating the Getty Station in Newmarket will start selling B-20 Diesel in early June (if its not doing so already).

What is B-20? Its a blend of 80% petroleum diesel and 20% Biodiesel. The 20% Biodiesel improves the emissions of standard petroleum diesel. The 80% petroleum improves the cost of Biodiesel. Together, it means your vehicle will run in the winter time without fuel gelling, and will clean the engine internals.

ORBI meets Presidential Hopefuls
In The Press In a message from David B, by way of Jessie, comes this gem of a picture (Presidential Hopeful Barack Obama holding a vial of Biodiesel with Dorn Cox and Joe Pearson).

There's also an article at http://www.fosters.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007104210224 where our very own Joe Pearson of UNH introduced Barack.
